If a property is sold on the courthouse steps by the sheriff, the sale of the property wipes out the junior liens other than the taxes owed on the property.  However, in Georgia the law provides for a 1 year redemption period where the property can be redeemed even after the sale.  The redemption amount for the property requires a payment of 120% of the tax sale purchase price within the first year and increases an additional 10% per year thereafter.  If the 1 year redemption period expires and the right to redeem is foreclosed, then the opportunity to redeem the property is barred.
